Harford trying to set up youth commission
Harford officials will ask the County Council today to establish a youth commission, which would encourage teenage representatives to work with agencies on activities, programs and projects designed to involve children and teens in their communities. The volunteer panel will include student representatives from area high schools as well as one teen appointee from each of the six council districts. They will share duties with representatives from the Sheriff's Department, Community Services and the Board of Education. The commission would promote cooperation among agencies that serve youth and help enhance programs already offered. Members would also design family-centered activities and advise officials on youth-related concerns. "We want to make sure our youth programs are viable and that they are steering youth in the right direction," said Robert B. Thomas, county spokesman.
